“With yoga, you nourish yourself at very deep levels, which causes you to glow with radiant health. You will become increasingly peaceful inside, less conflicted, and you will experience yourself more clearly as a uniquely beautiful expression of the creative God Force.

Welcome

The Rivertown Center for Yoga & Health is an independently owned and operated Kripalu Affiliated Studio serving Westchester County for over 20 years. We provide a safe, loving and nurturing environment for you to dive into the process of your own personal and spiritual journey. Our compassionate approach encourages self acceptance, offering you the opportunity to reconnect body, mind, heart and spirit through the open receptivity to body as teacher. We offer you tangible and sustainable ways to live a spiritual life.
The Kripalu yoga we practice at the Center is the yoga of the heart, the yoga of transformation. It is a metaphor for life. In other words, the mindful awareness we cultivate on the yoga mat and meditation pillow can be carried into our daily lives. The Rivertown Center is a place of community where like minded beings come together, supporting each other in self discovery.

In addition to yoga and meditation classes, we offer private healing sessions, private yoga instruction, workshops, teacher trainings, reiki trainings, retreats, special events and community circles and gatherings. At the heart of all our activities is a reverence for the sacred, recognizing the interconnectedness of all life.

Join us on the journey!

Philosophy

The word yoga means union, or “already-oneness”. The purpose of all yoga practices is to help us have an experience of that oneness, to experience the unity of body, mind, heart, and spirit. All beings wish to be happy, to know peace. In today’s busy world we are encouraged to look outside ourselves for things, places, and people to fulfill that wish. The ancient teachings remind us that we already are that which we are seeking. All we need do is stop, relax, and let go of what keeps us from knowing it. Our suffering is the direct result of stress caused by internal conflicts that drain our energy. This is what keeps us from experiencing inner peace, deep knowing, harmony, and the love of the universe. When we take time to fill ourselves from the inside, we have so much more to share with the world. We feel more alive physically, our minds are more peaceful, our hearts are more open, and we awaken to the divine light of conscious awareness.

The physical practice of yoga strengthens and stretches the skeletal and muscular systems, stimulates and regulates hormonal and immune systems, and improves digestion, circulation, and respiration. Yoga postures are just the beginning of the journey. They are the entry to the more subtle bodies of mind, emotions, and energy. When we practice, our emphasis is on awakening the body’s natural wisdom to free its inborn healing power, and on aligning with our true self and inner knowing. When we listen inwardly, we open to receive the guidance of divine wisdom that directs our life in all situations. We ease into the flow of life and allow ourselves to be carried by the river.
